Employment: 1976-1980 researcher at Central Research Institute Skoda k.p., 1980-1985 head of the technological process control group, 1985-1990 head of the computer control section of technological processes in Automatizace Skoda k.p., 1990-1997 company director of Easy Control s.r.o., 1997-1999 head of research at ZAT Control System a.s., 1999-2001 researcher at the Dept. of Cybernetics, FAS UWB in Pilsen, 2001- up to now docent, head of the automatic control section.
Doc. Schlegel is working on theory of automatic control and its application in industry. His main interests are algorithms of computer control of technological processes, linear systems, robust control, model predictive control and automatic tuning of industrial controllers. He is the main author of the control system ProCont that was implemented to hundreds of applications in CR and abroad. He is also an author of a unique control system of walking pontoon (weight 800 tons) propelling station of belt conveyance of the mine Bílina and many other nonstandard control systems, for example for NPP Temelín, National Theatre in Prague, Becherovka K. Vary, water power plant Mohelno, Kaučuk Kralupy, etc. Furthermore, he is the creator of original algorithms for automatic tuning of industrial controllers that have been implemented in several commercially available compact controllers and programmable logic controllers. He has authored or coauthored more than 100 articles, some of which were published in prominent international journals (IEEE Transaction on Automatic Control, Linear and Multilinear Algebra) and presented at world congresses of the International Federation on Automatic Control (IFAC).  He is a member of the Technical Committee on Control System Design of IFAC, on the editorial board of the journal Automatizace, Czech Society for Cybernetics and Informatics and Unity of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists.
